A Tale of Two Bikes Part 2

If I had paid attention when writing the review of the mens bike I purchased along with this one, I'd have given it mostly positive comments. This bike, however, has been one giant problem since shortly after unboxing. I mentioned in the other review that the front brake cable was not attached to the handlebars. I fixed that, no sweat. However, the big issue was that when the 85% of the bike was put together...somewhere...before it got to me...they put the chain on very incorrectly. Like, part was inside the frame as you would expect but part of it was outside the frame. I had to break the chain in order to re-thread it. But it was at that point that I ran into the brick wall of my abilities. I took it to a local bike shop for "repairs" and final adjustments. This cost is on top of what I already paid XDS for the bike. To their credit, they did offer me accessories for both bikes, but to be honest, while a nice gesture, it pales in comparison to the time and expense I've incurred trying to make the bike right myself. Something they should have taken care of themselves. Granted, if I had looked at it closely enough prior to completely unboxing it, I might have been able to get it all back in the box and shipped it back for a refund. But I assumed (and you know what happens when you do) that everything would have been as it should be, like my bike was.

The only redeeming factor of this whole thing, well, two redeeming factors, are 1) I have learned a lot about how to assemble and disassemble and adjust things on my bike and 2) I do think the bikes are both high quality. It was the lack of QA that led to the 3 star, and yes, I think I'm being generous.
